Reading Room Collections
What This Feature Does
Reading Room Collections let users organize saved papers, research news, discoveries, and imported bibliography items around a topic, project, grant, class, or reading workflow.
Collections Tab
The former My Paper Topics tab is now Collections. The left panel shows My collection with the total number of collections, a compact + Add button, and an Edit/Save mode button. The collection list is searchable and scrollable.
In regular mode, selecting a collection filters the paper/news list below to the contents of that collection. The right panel stays focused on the selected paper so the user can read, refer, and take notes.
In edit mode, selecting a collection opens a collection manager on the right. Users can edit the collection name, description, and tags; search and paginate the collection's papers; edit item status/tags inline; delete items from the collection; import more references; or delete the collection. The normal previous/next paper navigation controls are hidden in edit mode and replaced by a Save button that exits collection editing.
Adding Items
Users can add the selected Reading Room item to an existing collection from the note-taking panel. The collection field is a typed dropdown showing the user's collections. The compact + Add action opens an inline form for collection name, short description, and tags.
Importing Curated Papers
Inside a selected collection, users can import curated references by pasting BibTeX, RIS, CSL JSON, CSV, DOI, URL, or citation text. URL/DOI text and PDF-extracted text are passed through the Reading List LLM parser when OpenRouter is configured, with a local parser fallback. Users can also upload bibliography files or PDFs. Zotero, EndNote, Mendeley, and JabRef are supported through their standard BibTeX/RIS/CSV/JSON export files. PDF import is used only to extract likely paper metadata from the PDF text; the PDF itself is not stored as the collection item.
Management
Users can delete a collection without deleting the underlying Reading Room papers or news. In edit mode, deleting a table row removes that item from the collection only. In regular mode, the note-taking form remains visible and users can continue editing notes, tags, status, and selected collection from the paper detail panel.
Notes
The legacy single collection/topic text field is still saved on Reading Room items for compatibility with older exports and filters. The new collection membership table supports a true bookshelf/library workflow where one item can belong to collections over time.
